The anticipation builds. Riding boots on. Riding helmet on. Clean, groom and scrape the horse's hooves. Saddle up. Adjust the stirrups. And off into the saddle. Off we go. My first trail ride.
Tonight I could hardly sleep for excitement. Over the last few years, I've ridden in the riding hall during family vacations at Moar Gut or taken part in short rides around the resort. Now that we've trotted and galloped a lot on these rides, I'm finally allowed to take part in the trail ride, said my riding instructor Susi. This 4-hour ride to the mountain pasture is only for advanced riders who can ride independently at a walk, trot and canter.
In addition to the riding instructor, we are 5 riders who have taken a seat in the saddle on their horses and you can already feel the anticipation. We are a very mixed group. The youngest rider is 10 years old and there is also a mom. It will certainly be an unforgettable vacation experience!
And now we're finally off! The path leads directly behind the riding hall, where we have a wonderful view over the entire Moar Gut and Grossarltal.
The trail continues along a forest road through the forest. Past lush meadows and pastures. Over hill and dale. Uphill and sometimes downhill. At a walk, trot and canter. Riding through the forest, you can feel the silence and tranquillity. Only the clattering of hooves and the chirping of a few birds can be heard. If you pay close attention, you can also observe one or two forest animals. A woodpecker about to knock a hole in the tree or a squirrel crossing the path.
After about an hour's ride, we reach the Aigenalmen chapel. The chapel is beautifully and idyllically situated at around 1,250 m above sea level. A few hikers and cyclists cross our path, greet us in a friendly manner and continue on their way. Especially in the mountains, I notice how charity becomes tangible and how everyone looks out for each other. The harmony with people and nature and the simplicity of the day always make me smile.
And there we see it already! The Paulhütte. Just a few more meters and we have reached our destination. Whereby! As the saying goes? The journey is the destination. And that's exactly how it is on a hike up to the mountain pasture. Of course I'm looking forward to the refreshment stop and the delicious Kaiserschmarren, but even the way there is unique!
But before we reach the hut and the horses rest in the stables, we cross the stream bed. The stream not only provides a watering place for the horses, but also a soothing.
Now we're here! We have reached the Paulhütte. Elderberry juice and Kaiserschmarren. Well deserved!
I'm already looking forward to the next time I can take part in the trail ride with the Moar Gut Icelanders up to the mountain pasture.
To our riding offer.
